A large number of metabolites can be detected routinely using advanced MS and NMR techniques. However, a sizable fraction of the detected metabolites are unknown compounds. Identification of unknown metabolites from the complex spectral data is an important step for further investigations. Our center has developed and applied an array of analytical techniques to identify structures for unknown metabolites contained within complex mixtures. Structures for unknown metabolites are typically derived using one or more of analytical techniques using as small as a few mg of sample. Current efforts are focused on pushing this limit to the µg to ng range.
The NW-MRC provides unknown metabolite identification services to users using advanced NMR and/or MS techniques.
